MARY KEANE AND JACQUELINE KEANE-LYONS - Furnace

I called to the home of Jacqueline and Mary late one evening and the light went against me. The dresser was incredible as the welcome form Jacqueline and her family. What made this special is that it was not a stand alone dresser. Instead it was made as part of a larger wall unit of presses which covered the wall of their sitting room. Part of these units still contain a settle bed which would have been pulled out for an older person to sleep on. This would suggest it was built as one unit. I have came across this in Tipperary where the dresser was built into a sink unit in 1960’s. This dresser is full of family ornaments and is painted in the same colour as the presses on its left and right. Like many old houses, the floors were uneven and the base of the dresser follows the flow of the floor. I love the colour, the design and the years of paint.
