JIMMY FINNERTY - Moygownagh

Jimmy’s daughter Roisín contacted me about this particular dresser. It was the dresser she grew up with in the family home and something which all the family were proud of. The dresser was made by Jimmy’s father in 1911. The dresser was made in the actual room and as a result could not be taken out in one piece. This was in a day before flat pack assembly so the kitchen would have been a temporary workshop whilst it was being made. Apart from the years of paint the dresser has remained unchanged. It has the usual slots for the plate lats to sit down in. An addition by Jimmy, like my own grandmothers dresser are the cup hooks. These add extra storage for cups and mugs. The sheer scale of the dresser can be seen in comparison to Jimmy who stands beside it in one of the photographs.
